Here’s my 30 Major reamer print. I’ve won a lot of wood with this chambering. It’s very close to the chamber that set the .0077 world record for 5 shot group at 100. I designed this in 2007. It’s a simple neck up and turn setup. It compares favorably to a 30BR. Bottom line, I feel it may have a very slight edge over the BR but if you have a dedicated BR bolt, it’s a no brainer. This is an excellent choice.
Barrel contours…
I spent a pretty fair amount of time testing barrel contours that work best with tuners. While a tuner works well on virtually any contour, I designed a contour that offers much of what a tuner offers and optimizes a tuner’s performance. I’ll try to get a file up soon but it is essentially a barrel with a 1.200 shank that finishes at .900@24″ long. It’s about 10 ounces lighter than a typical HV contour and lets you put weight elsewhere in the gun to optimize balance and handling. This is the contour on my National Championship rifle. It’s between a LV and HV and meets all the rules that I’m aware of for UBR, NBRSA as well as IBS.
Most makers can duplicate it but American Barrel Company has the profile on their program and can make it. Just ask for the Ezell Tuner Contour.
